Named after a former attorney general of the State of Texas, the City of Allen began as a town of immigrant settlers. Located along the Houston and Texas Central Railroad lines, the town quickly developed a business district which contributed to its prosperity.
In 1915, a fire engulfed the Allen Central Business District, and the town would suffer a population decline years later. It was not until 1953 that Allen was formallly incorporated. This led to a development boom which saw the rise of gated communities such as The Village at Allen .
The city also has Jack Henry & Associates, Frontier Communications, and Experien as the top commercial entities in the area.
